No Gravy

Government du CanadaI can’t wait to see Smirkin’ Jack! flip his lack of a wig over this one; you just gotta know that its gonna be priceless. The federal Tories have just announced that they’re looking at a surplus of over $13 billion.

That’s not what’s going to get Jack!’s goat, though. This is:

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said Monday the surplus would go entirely to reducing the federal debt, a move that he said would save hundreds of millions next year in interest payments on that debt.

Asked on CTV Newsnet’s Mike Duffy Live why the government wouldn’t make any new spending commitments, Flaherty said: “We’re not like the last guys,” referring to the Liberal government of Paul Martin.

Yup, that’s right. For all the special interest moochers looking for a little something from the gravy train, NOTHING. Nada, nil, zip, zilch, the Great Bugger All.

Honour killing? In Canada?? [updated]

Mainstream MediaThe original story appeared in the Ottawa Citizen. Several blogs have already put this one out there, all being very careful to say that there is nothing in the article to indicate that the individuals involved are Muslims but seriously, look at the names. It doesn’t require any huge leap of logic.

Either way, Muslim or not, this does not bode well for the direction this country is heading in:

The brutal shooting death of a 20-year-old Ottawa woman and the wounding of her fiance early Tuesday morning provided one more shock yesterday: the suspect is the bride-to-be’s brother.

Police said yesterday they are on the hunt for 20-year-old Hasibullah Sadiqi of Ottawa in connection with the death of his sister, identified by her fiance’s family as Khatera Sadiqi, and the wounding of the fiance, Feroz Mangal, 23.

The full article can be found here.

UPDATE: More of the disturbing details of this case have been posted by Steve over at Angry In the Great White North:

A young Muslim woman was murdered by her brother in Ottawa. He was upset about her engagement. An honour killing? Very possibly, especially when you dig a bit deeper into the background of this particular community.

Complete post here. Just who (and, more importantly, WHAT?) are we allowing into our country these days?

It’s called blowback, Jack!

It seems that Taliban Jack!’s buffoonery has cost him a blogger, too. Blogging Dipper RJL announced this today:

I’ve decided to cut all ties with the NDP this weekend, and here’s why.

Read it all here.

Sorry to hear about your disillusionment, Reuben, but glad to see that you woke up. Here’s hoping that the future holds fewer disappointments for you.

Cheers,
Joe

And the flop flips

[Because of the perverse glee that I get from watching Debbie and Alex poke at each other, this has become one of my favourite threads. As a result, it is the only one to be migrated from the old blog with comments intact (manually, no less). It’s just so much fun…]

AsshatteryThis didn’t take as long as I thought. Taliban Jack!, Canada’s answer to Neville Chamberlain, was seen in the company of the talking high foreheads at the Ministry of What You Should Think today mewling that he didn’t want Canadian troops to bugger off out of Afghanistan after all. Seems that poor Jack! only said that our boys should just be moved to the northern part of the country and that the MSM just twisted everything around to make him look like a disloyal doofus.

Right. And David Duke’s just a misunderstood civil rights champion.

Lyin’ Layton is, of course, so full of shit that his hair hasn’t room to take root anymore. There was no doubt whatsoever as to what he was saying at the recent Dipper convention. The only thing that has changed is that his gutless disloyalty is now threatening to come back and bite him on the ass at the polls. And let’s face it, this was never about respect for our troops, Canada’s image, or any of the other bullshit that the Dippers will toss out.

It was about scrounging a few more votes out of the anti-Bush crowd, period. So now the Not Democratic Party will do what all good little Lefties do when they realise that their balderdash will cost them more than it will gain: flip and flop as they twist in the wind of public opinion from the extreme left.

How to fix Caledonia

Filed under: Antistupidity,Cluebat,First Nations,Good Stuff,Politicorrect — Dennis @ 8:49 pm

Mainstream MediaI’ve found it. Yes, I have; and I found it in the damned Globe and Mail, of all places. Don’t look at me like that; the only thing I’ve been smoking is, well… smokes. But I have actually found the answer to the situation in Caledonia. All they need to do is just send in this guy right here:

‘Indian Time doesn’t cut it’ for innovative chief with on-the-edge humour

From Thursday’s Globe and Mail

FORT McMURRAY — The man with the PowerPoint presentation is miffed.

He is speaking to a large aboriginal conference and some of the attendees, including a few who hold high office, have straggled in.

“I can’t stand people who are late,” he says into the microphone.

“Indian Time doesn’t cut it.”

Some giggle, but no one is quite sure how far he is going to go. Just sit back and listen:

“My first rule for success is ‘Show up on time.’ My No. 2 rule for success is follow Rule No. 1.”

“If your life sucks, it’s because you suck.”

“Quit your sniffling.”

“Join the real world — go to school or get a job.”

“Get off of welfare. Get off your butt.”

Busy day on the hill

Government du CanadaYes, indeed, ladies and gents, the hill was quite the busy place today. The ball got rolling realitively early, beginning with Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s address to Parliament (including, I assume, Jack! Layton; which is likely as close to a meeting with Karzai that the Smirkin’ Gherkin is gonna get):

Hamid Karzai

Afghanistan’s president offered his personal thanks Friday to the families of Canadian soldiers killed in his country and told them their loved ones have died for a great cause.

Hamid Karzai also met families of Canadian 9-11 victims after being welcomed on Parliament Hill by an honour guard of soldiers who’d served in Afghanistan. (more)

And then there was the huge rally, beginning at noon, which drew out damn near ten thousand in support of our troops overseas:

Ottawa at noon

Prime Minister Stephen Harper pledged again to rebuild Canada’s military during a speech Friday to thousands attending a rally on Parliament Hill to support Canada’s troops overseas.

The subdued colours of official Ottawa were replaced with blazing red shirts, red ties, red hats, red jackets – even flashes of red thongs among the crowd – all intended as a morale booster first proposed by the wives of two soldiers from the nearby Canadian Forces base at Petawawa, Ont. . . The rally took on a life of its own as local radio stations in Ottawa pumped it up, promoting it on air. (more)

All in all, quite a day. CTV footage of Karzai’s address to Parliament can be found here and articles on the rally can be found here and here.
